Edit: What I like...

John McCain giving his concession speech in a very gracious way, and the fact that he silenced his supporters when they started booing that Obama had won (on more than one occasion). I hope that he does work with Obama because if they can work together, they might actually get this nation together.

What I don't like...

Overzealous Obama fans that are cursing Republicans and people who voted for McCain. People saying things like "Fuck you, Republicans!" and "Your reign of terror is over!" What the hell does that accomplish aside from making you look like an idiot? How about you stop cursing people for being extremist Republicans while you're being an extremist Democrat? Idiots.

I went to CW's website and sent in some feedback. This is what I wrote:

Dear CW,

I just read in Variety magazine about the possibility for a TV show called "The Graysons" and I have to say this is probably the worst idea I've seen on this network. Dick Grayson is an iconic DC character (he was the first sidekick in comics ever), and this "new take" undermines every aspect of his character that was established since 1940 when he first showed up in comics.

First, his parents died when he was 8 and he was taken in by Bruce Wayne. To have him as a teenager (which was implied in the article) with his parents still alive takes away from everything that made him Robin. Second, if he's not taken in by Bruce Wayne, he would not become Robin. Batman put him on that course, so to take that element out of the show takes away everything about the evolution of Robin.

Dick Grayson has a huge fanbase in comic book circles, and if you don't believe me, ask Dan Didio, editor of DC comics. He wanted to kill Dick Grayson in the comics and was inundated with hate mail and protests. He, smartly, changed his mind and let his character live. But it just proves the point that Dick Grayson has very passionate and very loyal fans.

This series will most definitely not be what Bob Kane and Bill Finger had in mind when they created Robin. If you're trying to follow up on the success of Smallville, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

1. Dick Grayson is not Clark Kent. Clark Kent was an alien growing up on Earth. He had to cope with his developing powers and the problem of keeping them a secret. Dick Grayson has no powers. He is a normal kid who just happened to grow up under a circus tent.

2. Dick Grayson's parents died when he was 8. Clark Kent never knew his biological parents, who died on Krypton, but he did have a family on Earth. Dick Grayson's family is Bruce Wayne and Alfred. Without Bruce Wayne and Alfred, you don't have a show. And if Dick Grayson is a teenager, you've strayed from a very important trait of his character. When he was a teenager, he was living with Bruce Wayne and training to be Robin.

3. Dick Grayson's full name is Richard John Grayson. His nickname is Dick, not DJ. This may seem like a small point, but a character's name, especially one this well known, is important. What if you'd begun calling Clark Kent "CJ"? Would anyone know who the heck you were talking about in the show, especially if they hadn't seen the show from the very beginning? I don't think so.

4. Dick Grayson's home is not Gotham City. That's Bruce Wayne's home. He eventually stayed there with Bruce, but that's not where he's from. He was born into the circus and has never had a hometown. Clark is a farm boy, Dick Grayson is a nomad. He was never in the same place for very long as a kid and therefore didn't have any friends (aside from an elephant at the circus). Clark had friends.

There are more points, but I think you get the idea. I really hope you'll reconsider this "new take" on a beloved comic character. Smallville, despite its strays from the background of Clark Kent, I could stomach. This, I cannot. I don't think this one letter will change your mind, but I can say with some certainty that most comic fans would agree with me. Please keep this in mind.

Dear CW,

No. Absolutely not. You cannot do a series on Dick Grayson before he became Robin. You've already ruined the back story of one DC superhero with Smallville (among other guest star appearances by other DC heroes), I don't want to see another. Besides, Dick Grayson was 8 when his parents were killed. Are we going to watch a TV show about a 7 year old circus acrobat? The interesting stuff with his character happened after Bruce took him in... or during his transition from Robin to Nightwing.

Tom Brady's Injury

For those of my friends that follow football (if I have any friends that do... I'm not sure), Tom Brady was injured during the first quarter of the season opener, and he's out for the season. Do I think it was a dirty hit by Pollard? No. Do I think it was an illegal hit? Absolutely, even if the NFL doesn't agree with me.

There is a rule about hitting the quarterback below the knees. You can't do it. Pollard was on the ground, and there was no way he was going to be able to hit Tom Brady in a legal way... but he went for it. Wilfork fell into a quarterback's legs last year, and he got fined and penalized for it. I don't see why this is different.

But what's done is done. Brady's hurt and out for the season. Yeah, it sucks for the Patriots. But that doesn't mean the team is out of the game. The team still has a bunch of strong players, including a Pro Bowl offensive line, so while we probably won't see a repeat of last year's undefeated regular season, the Patriots are still contenders for the playoffs.

For all of the people who don't like the Patriots, who are still chanting they are cheaters and saying that Tom Brady deserved this... I hope you suffer from a torn ACL. It hurts like a mother fucker, and I don't care if it's someone you hate... you don't wish that on someone.

I'm not a big Peyton Manning fan (or Eli Manning for that matter), but I wouldn't wish that on them.

This is going to be an interesting year for football with the NFL MVP out for the season... and the AFC looking as crappy as it did last Sunday. Bolts and Colts both looked terrible. Jets didn't look too great either, even with Favre.

So we'll just have to see what happens.

Dick Grayson: DCU- Let’s get the obvious out of the way first. Dick Grayson is my favorite character in the DCU and pretty much all comics. He was the first comic book character I related to. I started watching Batman: The Animated Series as a kid, and I loved Robin. He was a teenager, but he was hero, even if he didn’t have any super powers. He’d gone through a tough life, but he still remained upbeat and had a sense of humor. He’s grown up in the comics to a strong leading character, and I still enjoy reading Nightwing comics.

Dr. Alex Delaware: Jonathan Kellerman novels- The leading character in my favorite book series. Most of Jonathan Kellerman’s books feature the mysteries that Dr. Delaware helps his L.A. cop friend, Milo, solve crimes. He’s a child psychologist, which is how he got involved in the first case they worked on together, and since then, he’s become a consultant for the L.A.P.D. He’s smart without being arrogant, and he’s a guy that tries to do the right thing, even if it’s not always the safe thing to do. I’m totally hooked on these books. I love the fact that I never figure out the answer before Dr. Delaware does. (I tend to ruin books for myself by trying to figure out the answer first).

Data: Star Trek: The Next Generation- Star Trek, my first fandom. I was one of the few Star Trek: The Next Generation fans that didn’t have Data as my favorite character (at least that I went to school with). I liked Data though. They were able to do the innocent, still learning about humanity persona without going the same route they had in the original series with Spock. And how cool is an android for a character? I think I really fell in love with Data in the final movie, Nemesis. He was more human than most of the other characters in that movie. And he was always good for a comic interlude :)

Dog: I Am Legend- The unnamed dog in I Am Legend, the novel (I know this one is kind of stretching the D name thing). In the novel, the dog has no name, and he’s a stray dog that Robert Neville happens to see one day and realizes it hasn’t been transformed by the plague that has turned everyone, except Neville, into vampires. It’s a really touching part of the book as Neville tirelessly tries to get the dog to trust him day after day. The dog gives Neville hope and fills his need for companionship, even if it’s only to watch the dog from a distance. This is a great and powerful part of the book, and I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t read it yet, but I’ve read this book several times and it still gets me, even if I know what’s going to happen.

Dory: Finding Nemo- The absolutely lovable, forgetful fish from Finding Nemo. I love Dory! She’s sweet, nice, and tries her hardest to be helpful, even if she can’t remember what she’s trying to do. I can’t help but laugh at her every time I watch that movie.

It's football season, huzzah! I figured that called for a few Patriots icons.

For those of you that aren't Patriots fans or hate the Patriots, save it. I know they're probably the most hated team in football right now, but I don't care. I love them, always have. Home town pride and all that... Gillette Stadium is probably about 20 minutes from my house.

The game today was nerve wracking! Tom Brady out on an injury, so Matt Cassel had to step up, and step up he did! It looks like he was just pretending to be a bumbling idiot for most of his career. Or maybe all of that time he played in the preseason helped him out.

Either way, let's hope that Brady's injury wasn't too serious.

Happy holidays to all my friends! Sorry I haven't been online in a week, but it's been a very busy week. My sister and her family drove up from Florida last Saturday, we went to Vermont and drove up the side of a mountain on a very scary, ice-covered driveway (but I'll detail that more later), went sledding on said mountain, and then came home yesterday only to go to my cousin's wedding last night and get really drunk.

The holidays are so much fun...

Oh, and Patriots are 16-0! Perfect regular season! The 1972 Dolphins can send that champagne that they were going to give the team that beat the Patriots to Foxboro Stadium. Take that, Patriots-haters! Ha!

I just found a completely plagerized story on ff.net. It's here. I hope she deletes it after she reads my comment. Once I realized I'd read a story almost exactly like this before, I pulled out the book (which just happens to be one of my favorite Star Trek books), I realized practically this entire story was copied word for word.

How sad.

This was my comment to the story:

Wow. Just wow. This is the most glaring plagerization I have EVER come across on ff.net. Seriously. This is almost word for word from the story of The Covenant of the Crown.

You have the same premise. Spock and McCoy are trapped on a planet (sure you took out Kailyn and your reason is a little different... whoopdee do). There are Klingons pursuing them, and they're climbing a mountain where they run into locals that know about space travel. You changed Shirn O'tay's name to Shar-in, but that's about all the originality I see here. You even used direct passages from the book.

The stone paved walkway ended and McCoy continued along a path at the base of a high cliff. The smooth wall of rock rose up to blend with the dark sky, it was hard to tell where one ended and the other began. Below him, the steep slope fell away to the valley floor hundreds of feet down. There was a soft thump from the path a few yards ahead of him. He glanced up and saw a little lump of snow that hadn’t been there a moment ago. Before he could turn to look around, the silent night was shattered by a screeching roar from above and behind him. Giant claws slashed at his throat. No place to go but over the cliff. Suddenly hands grabbed him, he held them, felt them give way, felt himself being pushed to safety as the animal fell backwards over the cliff.

This is the one that gave you away to me. So I pulled out the book.

I'm a Patriots fan. I like watching football, and I've been watching this whole season, as I've watched previous seasons.

I'm really sick and tired of hearing people badmouthing the team. Yes, Bill Belichick cheated by filming defensive coordinators, which is against the rules. It was stupid, he and the team got penalized. The End.

Every coach and every team is looking for that edge, that jump that will get them ahead of the other teams. Is Belichick the only coach that has bent and broken the rules? No. Will he be the last? Of course not. I'm in no way justifying what he did, but get over it.

I'm REALLY tired of hearing about how the Patriots are running up the score during each game. Why is everyone protesting because the offense is looking to break some records. If the other team's defense can't stop them, why should they stop themselves? Should they feel bad that their offense is better than the other team's defense? Are we suddenly in the pee-wee league where we should hold back and give everyone a chance to score?

This is professional football, people. This is what these guys are paid to do. Why should they hold back just because they're ahead? Should the Red Sox have held back in Game 1 of the World Series when they were ahead by over 10 runs? Should golfers hold back if they're more than 5 strokes ahead of their competition? Should a football team's defense let the other team score just so it's not a shut out?

The answer to all of those is No, so why should the Patriots offense hold themselves back to appease the other teams? Games have turned when the leading team is up by 30 or more points, and the other team has come back to win it. I've seen it happen.

I'm just really sick and tired of people badmouthing the Patriots. If it was their team, they would be sticking up for them. So that's what I'm doing.
